Sprint Nextel backs WiMAX for 4G

The US operator Sprint Nextel plans to deploy a nationwide Mobile WiMAX network in partnership with Intel, Motorola and Samsung. Sprint Nextel currently operates a cdma2000 EV/DO 3G network and Motorola and Samsung have committed to develop multimode devices that operate on both cdma2000 and Mobile WiMAX. Services will be delivered via the operator's licensed 2.5 GHz spectrum and will be available to 85% of households in the top 100 US markets.
